Reindeer Racing Championships in Tromso

One of the most exotic events in the calendar in Tromso is undoubtedly the Reindeer Racing Championships in February.

The event consists in short of people attempting to stay upright on skis whilst being pulled by a reindeer at speeds up to 60km/hr. Good fun indeed.

The championships is a part of the celebration of the Sami people’s national day on the 6th of February, and the race has been held on the first Sunday of February – during the Sami Culture Week.

During the week there is also many Sami stalls selling traditional Sami handicrafts and foods at the main town square.
