Airports near Oslo
Oslo has three airports nearby, none of which are particularly close to town or very big and exciting to spend hours in.
Oslo Airport Gardermoen
Oslo Airport Gardermoen which lies an hour north of the city is the main airport, serves airlines such as British Airways, Lufthansa, SAS, Continental and Norwegian to name a few. It is where most people start their Norwegian holiday, unfortunately.
The airport, although new and efficient, is, if possible, even more expensive than the rest of the country, and it really isn´t a place you would like to spend hours waiting for a connection.
A regular airport train service takes you into Oslo central station in just 20 minutes. Budget travellers may want to consider the bus option.

Rygge and Torp Airports
The other two airports, Rygge and Torp, are mainly serviced by budget Ryanair flights from destinations all over Europe.
Both these airports lie south (one of either side of the Oslo fjord) roughly 1,5hours by car or bus.
Rygge have regular trains running into Oslo (a free shuttle bus will take you from the airport to the train station at Rygge), whereas at Torp you have to get on the bus into town.
Trains to Oslo
Trains from both the airports, Sweden and the rest of Norway comes in to the Oslo Central Station in the middle of Oslo.
It has for many years been the shame of Oslo, and various measures have been taken (and failed) to prevent tourists´ first view of Oslo being what it is from the exit of the station – the main meeting point for crack dealers and drug addicts in Oslo.

Ferries and Cruises to Oslo
The ferries and cruises also dock in the middle of town, which makes travelling this way very convenient, even for foot passengers.
The daily services to Denmark and Kiel in Germany docks not far from the famous Aker Brygge, whilst cruise ships dock next to the Akershus fortress.
Driving to Oslo
Driving to Oslo is easiest coming up the Western coast of Sweden, following the E6. Oslo is approximately 6 hours North of Gothenburg.
Compared to rest of Norway, this is not a particularly interesting or scenic route, so best just to put your foot down (within the speed limits!) and get it over and done with.
Do like the rest of the Norwegians - buy your quota of meat, beer and wine in Sweden before heading to Norway.
