International Film Festival Opens in TromsoThe annual Tromso International Film festival (TIFF) kicked off in Tromso today. The festival started with films for children at the outdoor screen made of ice in the town square.
These screenings will continue every morning throughout the festival week.
20th AnniversaryTIFF celebrates 20 years this week, and the programme boasts everything from Russian musicals to Finnish comedy.
A wide range of films, both short and long, from all corners of the world fills the programme at the increasingly popular festival.
Bought FilmsMost of the films showed at the festival can’t compete with the marketing powers behind American blockbusters and will never make it to regular cinema screenings.
New this year is that TIFF themselves have bought some of the films which will be shown at the festival this week.
That way the films can be shown at cinemas around Norway after the festival. But festival boss, Martha Otte, says this is far from a profit making stunt.
“It would be impossible to make money from it.”, she tells iTromso.no.
