Norwegian roadside picnic areas celebrated around the worldAn exhibition showing the architecture of Norwegian roadside picnic areas opens in New York on December 4th.The Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s project National Tourist Routes is one of the highlights of the exhibition titled “Detour”, which will be on display in world famous institutions like the Parsons School of Design with help from the Guggenheim museum.
“Guggenheim is particularly interested in the artistic dimension of National Tourist Routes, and the connection between art, architecture and landscaping”, says Nina Berre, from Norsk Form, to vg.no.
Designer PicnicsThe picnic areas along Norwegian roads have been designed by high profile Norwegian and international architects.
One of the architects involved in several of the new picnic areas, Reiulf Ramstad, tells vg.no this project will mean a lot to both Norwegian tourism and Norwegian architecture.
“I believe the National Tourist Routes project has been, and will continue to be, hugely influential on Norwegian architecture. It’s helped bring Norwegian architecture up to a high international level.”
