Norway wants to "own" the Northern Lights

Like Finland have branded Santa as theirs, Norway now wants to make the northern lights Norwegian.

Innovation Norway has launched a large campaign to brand the northern lights as a Norwegian speciality.

"The northern lights is a fantastic natural phenomenon. It is important that we take this opportunity to establish Norway as the land of the northern lights, before anyone else does", Per-Arne Tuftin from Innovation Norway told iTromso.no.

In the new campaign the national tourism company have launced a new website where people amongst other things can make their own aurora. It is also being promoted through social media site, Facebook.
