Norway on top in China
Norway has been voted the worlds most ecological holiday destination by a large travel magazine in China.
The Chinese travel magazine TravelWeekly ranked Norway above countries such as Switzerland and New Zealand in their eco-destination of the year award.
Norwegian Fjords and Northern Lights Popular in China
Norway has long been a popular destination for Chinese tourists, who are drawn to the Norwegian fjords, mountains and fresh air.
Hurtigruten is a particular favourite, and during the first week in June, no less than half the passengers on their special Svalbard cruise came from China, writes aftenposten.no.
Chinese visitor numbers to Norway has also seen a growth of 29 percent since last year.
Few People and Untouched Nature
After a jury chose the finalist destinations, over 800,000 people voted for Norway in the poll, and Per-Arne Tuftin from Innovation Norway believes the lack of people in Norway is a particular draw.
“Fjords, northern lights and the opportunity to experience peace and quiet in the wilderness is important for Asian tourists in Norway. Most Chinese visitors to Norway come from large cities or densely populated areas”, he told aftenposten.no.
