Big Freeze Heading to Tromso

VinterThis weekend is set to become the coldest on record in Tromso, meteorologists warn.

Temperatures as low as minus 24 could occur in the Northern Norwegian city of Tromso this weekend.

If the predictions are right, the previous cold record will be smashed.

Coldest in 44 years

The standing cold record of a "mere” minus 18,4 degrees Celsius was set way back in 1966.

That was the coldest it has been since data collection began in 1920, writes nordlys.no.

Good for northern lights

The cold weather creeping in from Siberia brings clear skies to most of the northern region.

As a result, there will be good chances of seeing northern lights in Tromso in the next few days.

Just remember to wrap up warm, top to bottom, and don’t stay out too long.
