AIrlines cough up for expired passportsUK Customs fine airlines £2,000 for each passenger who comes to the UK with expired passports.Budget airliner Norwegian is unhappy about the arrangement, and call for Norwegian police to perform more thorough passport controls at Gardermoen.
Police "not doing their jobs properly"“Border control is a government responsibility, and what we see is that passports are not checked properly at Gardermoen. When the passenger gets to the UK, we have to pick up the fine. This is unfair,” says comms director Anne-Sissel Skånvik in Norwegian to TV2.
Carrier’s responsibilityThe Norwegian police on the other hand say it is the carrier’s responsibility to ensure all passengers have the appropriate documents for travel, and that they cannot blame the border controls.
