Spend 12 days driving around the most amazing areas of Norway at your own pace. Visit cities like Bergen, Oslo and Trondheim and pass some of the most jaw-dropping sceneries on the planet. Fjords, mountains, waterfalls and glaciers, this driving holiday in Norway will never be forgotten.
Day 1: Arriving in Norway
Depending on when you arrive in Oslo, you will have time to explore the city on your own.
Oslo has a range of activities and sights on offer, and you are sure to find something to suit your interests.
A NordicVisitor representative will meet and greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in the centre of Oslo.
Spend the night in Oslo.
Day 2: The Mountains of Southern Norway
In the morning you can take the opportunity to learn more about Norway´s viking past at the Norwegian Folk Museum before picking up your rental car and heading out of town.
Follow the Hallingdal valley up the mountains, passing beautiful villages and rivers before reaching the village of Geilo.
In winter Geilo is one of Norway´s most popular ski resorts, and in summer the village is a beautiful stop to take in the area.
Spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Geilo.
Day 3: Hardangervidda´s Amazing Scenery
Today the drive towards Bergen will take you past the Hardangervidda National Park with some stunning sights along the way.
See Norway´s highest waterfall, the Voeringsfossen, at 182metres, and pass the dramatic and narrow Maaboedalen valley along Eidfjord.
Arriving in Bergen after your scenic drive, check into your hotel or guesthouse in Bergen centre.
Enjoy an evening in this lively student city.
Day 4: Exploring Historical Bergen
Today you can take a break from driving in the morning and take in some of Bergen´s many sights.
The fish market, the Floyen cable car and the UNESCO listed Bryggen area are amongst Norway´s most visited tourist spots.
In the afternoon, your drive continues to the Sognefjord, Norway´s longest and deepest fjord.
End your day in Sogndal, where you will stay in a hotel of guesthouse for the night.
Day 5: Glaciers and The Geiranger Fjord
The Jostedals Glacier is the biggest in mainland Europe and today the drive on the Fjerlands Road will take you past it.
Continue towards Hellesylt, where a ferry will take you across the famous Geiranger fjord to Geiranger. The fjord is one of the biggest draws of fjord-land Norway, and some of the most photographed areas of the country.
Spend the night in these beautiful surroundings in a hotel or guesthouse in the Geiranger area.
Day 6: Eagle Highway and the Trolls´ Ladder
Today will be one of the most exciting drives possible. From Geiranger you continue along what is called the “Eagles´ Highway” to Eidsdal where a ferry will take you across to Linge.
Here you will have the chance to drive up one of Norway´s most visited spots, the Trollstigen (The Trolls´ Ladder) (summer only).
After this magnificent climb you will continue towards another fairytale spot, the city of Aalesund.
Spend the night in Aalesund.
Day 7: Art Nouveau Aalesund
The city of Aalesund burned to the ground in 1904 and was completely rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, making it a very interesting town to visit indeed.
Stroll around this fairytale place and take in the atmosphere.
Spend another night in Aalesund.
Day 8: The Viking Capital Trondheim
Head out along the famous Atlantic Ocean Road, towards Trondheim. Remember to keep your cameras ready!
Arrive in Trondheim in time to visit the Nidaros cathedral and learn more about Trondheim´s viking past.
Spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Trondheim.
Day 9: The Roses of Roros
As your journey takes you South and East of Trondheim, towards the Swedish border, you get to the beautiful village of Roros.
This UNESCO World Heritage Listed place is a charming village of old houses, flowers and alleys.
Spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Roros.
Day 10: Olympic Spirits of Lillehammer
Travelling South towards Oslo, Lillehammer was the host of the 1994 Olympic games.
Visit the Maihaugen open-air museum and the Olympic village or try one of the many activities on offer in the area.
Spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Lillehammer.
Day 11: Back to the Capital
The drive back to Oslo from Lillehammer is only about 2,5 hours, so you have time to stop off in places like Hamar along the way.
Back in Oslo, you will have plenty of time to explore the capital on your own.
Visit the Holmenkollen ski jump arena for great views of the city, or just relax with a drink on the Aker Brygge Marina.
Spend the night at your Oslo city centre hotel or guesthouse.
Day 12: Heading Home
Included in the price is an express train transfer to Oslo Gardermoen airport from the city centre.
Depending on your flight, you may have some time to enjoy Oslo a bit more before heading home.
